Buildings A and B completed at NCC OOPS office site have just now been awarded the international BREEAM Excellent environmental certificate. The buildings are designed and built to fulfil the requirements of BREEAM Excellent from the beginning.
– NCC uses BREEAM as a standard procedure with over ten years’ experience. The certificate means that sustainability and employee well-being are promoted throughout the project, from the planning, design and commissioning all the way to the building’s operation in several decades to come. OOPS values show, for example, in the solar panels installed on the parking building roof, workplace light control and natural light as well as the charging points for electric bicycles and cars. The project is based on protecting local biodiversity and water systems, especially the Monikonpuro brook and the park area, Project Manager Markus Pahikkala of NCC lists.
OOPS’ BREEAM Excellent certificate also means good connectivity by public transport and bicycle routes, sustainable energy solutions and resource efficiency, such as monitoring of water consumption. Special attention is paid to material efficiency, recyclability and efficient use of spaces, which is considered, for example, as a common-use conference centre.
Proven BREEAM environmental quality
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is originally a British classification system which is based on All-European standards. It encourages sustainable and responsible construction and enables assessing the building’s environmental impacts based on which the building is awarded points. The buildings are divided into five categories according to the relevant criteria: Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent and Outstanding.
Behind the BREEAM certification stands the BRE Group which consists of researchers, scientists, engineers and technical experts. BRE is a profit-making organisation that invests their profits in public-interest research projects or refurbishment of their own research facilities.
NCC is currently developing and building the first office project for which the highest Outstanding level will be applied. The highest possible rating is sought for the We Land project underway in the Ruoholahti district of Helsinki.
What is OOPS?
- OOPS (Oasis of Professionals) is an area built for working, shopping, accommodation, sports, entertainment and experiences in Hatsinanpuisto of Leppävaara, along the Monikonpuro brook.
